Day in and day out, doing the same things over and over, much like the movie “Groundhog Day”. Phil (portrayed by Bill Murray) wakes up to the same song on the radio, at the same time each day. The first several days he was sick of it; knowing what was going to happen down to the second, and either watching or intervening for his benefit, not caring about long term consequences. Finally, he was at the point of wanting to break the cycle so bad, he was attempting suicide. One night, he finally opens up to his co-worker and wants to better himself. He now sees the town in a different light, and uses his time to help people and learn new things (playing piano and speaking French). Once Phil learns his lesson and sees life in a new light, the cycle is broken and time now moves forward.

I’ve been learning to see God in the small things, because I felt like I was on the same cycle each and every day. I began to lose purpose and wonder what God’s plan was, and during prayer time, felt tired and exhausted, not refreshed. It was a few weeks ago that I was listening to a song driving to Church on a beautiful Sunday morning. The song is titled “Good Good Father”, by Zealand Worship (highly recommended), and its about crying out to God that we trust His plan, and He is a good good Father. I walked into church, and the second song on the playlist that morning was “Good Good Father”. It was at that moment I felt broken down, and knew that was God telling me to trust His plan, and not be caught up in the ‘normal-ness’ of life. I left Church that morning feeling refreshed and revitalized, knowing with Christ in my heart I can conquer anything. God does not want us to lead a boring, mundane life; He wants us to let Him take control and let Him be the King of our lives.

When God speaks, its not always a booming voice with thunder and lightening coming from Heaven, it can be the smallest sign or the quietest voice in our heart. I decided to go on a nature photo shoot with my new vision and mindset, and see what I could find. On my way there, I got off the thruway and was stopped at the end of the exit ramp. My prayer the whole day was “Let me see you where I least expect it”, and as I looked to my left, there was a “One Way” sign with an arrow pointed directly at the afternoon sun. My mind and heart saw that as incredible, knowing the one way to Heaven is Gods Son, Jesus Christ.

My afternoon continued and came to a close, and each time I think about anything, I see God in it. When I care for people at work, I can see Gods hand; when out for a walk, I see Gods hand; when talking with people, I see Gods hand on their lives; when talking and thinking about Brothers Without Borders, I see Gods hand on us. I am now beginning to see it everywhere, and I pray this for you too! For my Emergency Medicine friends, think of our heart. God didn’t just give us a heart that if one thing fails we drop dead; our hearts electrical system has a backup. If the SA node doesn’t fire, the AV node can take over!

My friends, don’t waste anymore time in the boring-ness of life, open up to Christ and the life He wants you to live. The road may be difficult at times, but we’re in this together, and the journey is incredibly exciting when you jump in and don’t look back. Let go, and let God.

Isaiah 55:12 – “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

Jeremiah 29:13 – “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Have you ever felt like life is on repeat?
